Our Campaign

a

PRESERVE aims to campaign vigorously against the Chelveston Renewable Energy Park proposal which is not a done deal.

PRESERVE are opposed to the siting of wind turbines on the Chelveston Airfield for the following reasons:

The proposed turbines are of an offshore type:

  • Their scale is immense: 400 feet tall
  • 9 turbines will dominate the surrounding landscape, dramatically impacting beautiful views for miles around
  • They have not been sound-damped for on-shore use: they are therefore noisy
  • The turbines will overshadow many ancient monuments, including local churches and the ancient Motte and Bailey in Yelden
  • The visual intrusion will be increased by the need for pylons to conduct the energy produced
  • The average wind speed in this region is the lowest in the UK: the turbines are therefore never likely to reach the 30% efficiency claimed by CRE
  • The energy produced for the dramatic intrusion on the landscape will only be enough to power 4.5% of Northants households: a very small energy benefit for such a large-scale development

Large gains for the developers – little gain for the environment – unacceptable impact on your community

Size DOES matter!

A balloon was flown over two weekends to demonstrate the approximate height of the turbines proposed for the Chelveston Airfield.

A telling illustration of the approximate height of the proposed turbines is the picture below. This artist’s impression to scale shows the height of the proposed turbines in comparison with Hargrave Church.

The community must surely want to avoid the potential visual domination of the turbines in our villages.
