How you can help

PRESERVE is a community organisation which is wholly dependent on the work of volunteers and the funds raised or donated by supporters.

Since our campaign began in 2006, we have spent well over £40,000 on legal advice, consultancy reports (noise and visual impact), newsletters, posters, website etc: funds that we gained through donation and events.

The campaign has been successful so far because of the local community’s commitment to the cause. Residents packed out the Bedford Corn Exchange and filled the East Northants Council Chamber to overflowing for the Council Planning Meetings in February and March 2011. Both Councils refused the application.

The developer has now lodged an appeal, and the case is going to Public Inquiry in March 2012. This is a public meeting with The Planning Inspectorate, where the Inspector will make the final decision on this proposal.

PRESERVE has been granted Rule 6 third party status at the inquiry. This means that on your behalf, PRESERVE will reinforce the Councils’ reasons for refusal and also argue for additional reasons that are important to residents. We will need to pay for the services of a barrister and specialists who are experts in the technical areas and environmental concerns of the proposal. We foresee that we will require in the region of £50,000 to fight this last stage in the campaign.

We now need the community’s support more than ever to build up the PRESERVE campaign fighting fund.

It’s not an impossible task! For example, we would only need 100 people to donate £5 a week (£20 a month) for the next 5 months to raise £10,000.

Those who are able to make a donation will be investing in a campaign to protect our future quality of life. With your help we could preserve the local environment we all value so much.

With house prices likely to fall by 15% if the proposal is allowed, a donation to the campaign fund that helps us get it refused could be seen as a good investment!
